About LASIK

LASIK is a form of laser vision correction surgery and one of the most recognized procedures for eliminating an individual's need for eyeglasses or contact lenses. The surgery uses excimer lasers to reshape the cornea to focus light more accurately on the retina. Our eye care surgeons at Nevada Eye Physicians perform LASIK procedures using the latest advancements in laser technology. Our surgeons are involved in all aspects of the refractive experience. They personally review and verify all pre-operative testing to ensure accuracy and customize the treatment that is right for you. Most patients who undergo LASIK surgery are able to see 20/15 (which is even better than 20/20) without needing glasses or contacts. To learn more about how to receive life-altering results with LASIK, contact one of our Nevada locations to schedule your consultation today.

Wavefront-guided LASIK

At Nevada Eye Physicians, we provide wavefront-guided LASIK procedures which are a form of custom LASIK surgery that uses 3D measurements to reshape the cornea. Wavefront provides for a more specialized approach by evaluating how your eye specifically views and processes images. It is also useful to correct irregularities that may be associated with the eye's optical system. During your consultation, you can discuss with your surgeon about wavefront-guided LASIK and assess if it may be the best option for your specific needs.

Best Candidates

Vision corrective surgery can be a life-changing experience and can be an excellent alternative to contact lenses and glasses for most patients. However, patients need to be certain they understand how the surgery works, what benefits to expect after surgery, and the potential risks of these procedures. Our surgeons will spend ample time with prospective candidates to be certain they have all the information they need to make a decision. Candidates must be over 18 with generally healthy eyes which have been stable for at least a year. Eyes must be free from issues such as diseases, corneal abnormalities, scars, and infections. Patients undergoing LASIK will need to keep their eyes steadily focused on a single point of light for two minutes. Even though our team’s modern lasers can track random eye movements, the most effective results occur from patients who can maintain a fixed stare.

What to Expect

LASIK is an outpatient procedure that takes minutes to perform at our facility. The technology reshapes the cornea to correct how the eye focuses. As the procedure begins, drops will be applied to numb your eyes and your Nevada Eye Physicians surgeon may also provide medication to help you relax. From there, your eyelids will be gently propped open, and a device is put into place to stabilize your eye. At this point, the computer-controlled excimer laser pulses light to reshape your cornea, based on the data collected from your previous appointments. After this, your surgeon will reposition the corneal flap that will naturally stay put and start healing within hours.

After the procedure, you are released to go home. However, you will not be allowed to drive yourself. You might feel some discomfort, itching, slight burning, or watery eyes, but those symptoms are typical, temporary, and part of the healing process. You might also be provided with an antibiotic prescription to prevent infection, as well as anti-inflammatory drops for a few weeks after the procedure. Patients are advised to rest and use sunglasses for bright light protection. Vision usually normalizes within a few hours and continues improving from there. Patients will need to attend follow-up appointments at Nevada Eye Physicians so that their healing and progress can be evaluated.
