What Are Cataracts?
Cataracts are classified as a clouding of the eye’s lens. Therefore, the retina will have a hard time transmitting clear images, creating blurry and hazy vision. Cataracts are not painful, but if left untreated they can cause vision loss and impede your daily activities. This is why it is important to seek medical attention if you are experiencing symptoms that could be related to cataracts so that the issue can be treated before it progresses. Our physicians at Nevada Eye Physicians offer treatment to help eliminate cataracts and provide patients with restored vision. If you have cataracts, Nevada Eye Physicians specializes in many surgical options to remove the clouded lens. How Are Cataracts Treated?
If symptoms of cataracts continue to progress, your ophthalmologist at Nevada Eye Physicians may recommend surgery to remove the cataract. With cataract surgery, your eye’s cloudy natural lens is removed and replaced with a clear artificial lens implant (called an intraocular lens or IOL). Our surgeons at Nevada Eye Physicians provide both traditional and laser surgical procedures for the removal of the cloudy lens. Your natural lens will then be replaced by an artificial, intraocular lens (IOL). The implant will not change the outward appearance of your eye, but it can drastically improve your vision. Your surgeon will evaluate the best IOL implant to fit your specific vision needs. The shape and size of each lens implant differ from eye to eye. All are held in place by small flexible loops called haptics. Implants are intended to last a lifetime and are made of bio-compatible materials like silicone and acrylic to keep from irritating your eye. Once your eye has healed following the surgery, your vision should be clearer, though you may still need glasses to optimize your vision.
