Light Adjustable Lens

Are you exploring your options for lens replacement during cataract surgery? At Nevada Eye Physicians, we are proud to offer the Light Adjustable Lens to those who desire the ability to customize their vision after cataract surgery.

What is the Light Adjustable Lens?

The Light Adjustable Lens is an intraocular lens (IOL) used to replace your natural, cataract-affected lens during cataract surgery. This lens is the only IOL that allows you to fully customize and personalize your vision after cataract surgery.

The Light Adjustable Lens is made from a special photo-sensitive material. Thanks to this unique technology, your eye doctor can adjust the power of the lens using UV light after cataract surgery.

As a result, your vision can be fine-tuned, improving your visual outcome and reducing your dependency on glasses and contact lenses after cataract surgery.

What Happens During Cataract Surgery With the Light Adjustable Lens?

To experience the many benefits of the Light Adjustable Lens, you must first undergo cataract surgery with this life-changing lens. The cataract surgery process is the same with the Light Adjustable Lens as with any other type of IOL.

Before the procedure, your cataract surgeon will numb the surface of your eyes with special eye drops. Then, they will make a tiny incision on the front part of your eye, the clear round dome known as the cornea, to access your natural lens.

Next, they will break your lens into small pieces and remove them using gentle suction. Once all the tiny pieces are removed, your cataract surgeon will replace your natural lens with the Light Adjustable Lens and position it in place.

Once in place, the procedure will be complete, and the tiny incision will heal naturally. Your eye doctor will send you home the same day with instructions to follow to ensure your eyes recover as smoothly as possible.

Since you will need to avoid UV light to prevent unwanted changes to your new Light Adjustable Lens during recovery, you will need to wear special sunglasses. Once your eyes have recovered from cataract surgery, you will return to your eye doctor for treatments with the Light Delivery Device.

How Does The Light Adjustable Lens Work?

The Light Adjustable Lens is composed of a unique substance that can alter its form in reaction to a certain kind of light. The focusing power is not yet established when the lens is first implanted in the eye.

It is in a neutral condition and prepped for alteration once your eyes have healed. With any other type of IOL currently available, your eye doctor will have to select the power of the lens before cataract surgery.

However, the Light Adjustable Lens makes previewing and adjusting your vision after cataract surgery a possibility. Once you return to your eye doctor after your eyes have healed from cataract surgery, your cataract surgeon will use a specialized tool to administer light treatments.

This tool is called a Light Delivery Device, and it sends a specific wavelength of light to the lens, which modifies the shape of the lens material and the focusing power. You may need a few treatments, anywhere from two to four, with the Light Delivery Device to reach your optimal vision outcome.

How Do I Know If The Light Adjustable Lens is Right For Me?

If you are interested in experiencing excellent visual outcomes and having the ability to customize and preview your vision after cataract surgery, the Light Adjustable Lens may be suitable for you. The best way to determine if the Light Adjustable Lens may be right for you is to visit your eye doctor at Nevada Eye Physicians for a cataract evaluation.

Your eye doctor will help determine which lens options may be best for you based on your budget, vision goals, and lifestyle.
