We are very excited to learn that Dr. Rudy Manthei was nominated for the Las Vegas HEALS (Health, Education, Advocacy and Leadership of Southern Nevada) annual “Inspired Excellence in Healthcare Awards,” one of the most prestigious community awards a physician or healthcare leader in Southern Nevada can receive.
Among Dr. Manthei’s many philanthropic and volunteer activities, perhaps none is as important and far reaching as his creation, management and continued oversight of KODIN (Keep Our Doctors In Nevada). Working nearly full time on the project in the early 2000’s, Dr. Manthei raised the funds, created the legislation and ultimately led the movement to pass the 2004 tort reform bill. He continues as chairman of KODIN to protect and modify the initiative as necessary. The legislation is one of the most important initiatives passed in the past decade, stemming the exodus of physicians from the state and controlling health care costs.
As a community contributor, Dr. Manthei assumed responsibility for the Sight for Life program. This program provides eye care services to patients without the means to pay. He also ran the Ophthalmology Clinic for Clark County Social Services. Lastly Dr. Manthei established the Santa Program which works in conjunction with the Clark County School Nurses to aid school children by providing free eye exams and glasses. We hope the selection committee sees Dr. Manthei as the worthy candidate we do and awards him with this prestigious award.
