There is a good chance that you have seen a least a multitude of ads about the latest new, low cost, and highly effective LASIK eye-surgery that may help you ditch those glasses for good. However, it's important that you are informed about any procedure.
Currently, LASIK is one of the most popular and frequently performed eye surgeries in America, and Nevada Eye and Ear offers effective LASIK surgery to enhance your vision. Before you undergo LASIK eye surgery, here are some of the key factors that you should know and are also illustrated in the following video.
Know Yourself and Your Surgeon
The first step in getting LASIK surgery is deciding why you actually want to have the procedure. The chances are that you're going to be living with the results of Lasik forever, so you need to make sure you're not simply jumping on the bandwagon for a new fad that ultimately leads to disappointment. Remember, although LASIK can improve your vision significantly, you need to have realistic expectations. What's more, it's prudent to remember that Laser refractive surgery is still a form of surgery, and there is no such thing as "minor" eye surgery. Complications can always occur in any aspect of surgery. Although the chances of you experiencing something negative is very low, it's smart to do research which includes what is the process and what surgeons rate the best in Las Vegas. Once you have thoughtfully considered your reasons for undergoing LASIK, you need to contact a board-certified medical ophthalmologist; preferably one with plenty of experience working with LASIK, such as our very experienced LASIK surgeons at Nevada Eye & Ear. For example, ask your surgeon about your "refractive error". If you are myopic, or nearsighted, you may be more likely to require a repeat procedure, so ask your doctor what your chances are of requiring a refinement in the future. Always ask as many questions as needed about the procedure, after care, and outcomes. It's important that you are comfortable with every aspect of your decision to undergo this surgery. If you are seeing your doctor alone, Nevada Eye & Ear has a ‘Questions to Ask Your Doctor’ that your can print off of the computer and bring it in with you during your visit.
Know Your Eligibility
A significant question that you should always ask yourself is: "Is LASIK right for me?" When you discuss your questions and concerns with a LASIK surgeon at Nevada Eye & Ear, the doctor will review all the treatment options with you to ensure you're taking the right steps in your eye care journey. LASIK is an innovative and often effective procedure, but it is not right for everyone. People who suffer with certain corneal diseases, severe dry eyes, and other problems may not be candidates for LASIK surgery. If you have any concerns regarding your eligibility, make an appointment to speak to one of our LASIK surgeons at Nevada Eye & Ear about your specific circumstances.
