Did you ever notice that when getting your child ready to play sports, we do a great job at making sure they have the latest cleats, the best batting glove, and the right mouth guard, but do we ever stop and think if they have the right eye protection? Based on a study of the American Academy of ophthalmology there are more than tens of thousands of sports and recreation-related eye injuries each year. The type of injuries vary depending on the sport you are participating in.
On a positive note, at least 90% of those injuries could have been prevented by wearing the proper eye protection. Always remember that just wearing glasses is not protection enough from certain injuries. You must have the proper protective sports glasses recommended by your physician.
In addition to making sure you have the proper eye protection, it is always recommended to have a good eye exam once a year. It can not only help your vision and your performance, but it will help save your vision for many years to come.
Make it a family affair and not only schedule your children for a comprehensive eye exam, but schedule yourself one as well.
Remember, here at Nevada Eye Physicians, we can take care of you, your kids, and your parents.
