First Person Glaucoma Testing

A first person look at what goes on at our office when we test for Glaucoma!

Video Transcription

For Mr. Smith. Hey, good morning. How are you doing today? Good. My name is Christian. I’m going to take you back to do some testing today, all right. Right this way. All right, we’re going to start off in here if you can have a seat right there for me. All right, first thing we’re going to do is take this visual field test. We take it for glaucoma, all right? We take it for a lot of other stuff, but mostly for glaucoma. What we want to see with this is that glaucoma can affect your visual field, so your field of vision, and we want to see if there’s any defects or if there’s anything else going on with it, okay. So mostly going to be clicking a button the whole time and seeing a lot of dots, okay? So let’s go ahead and get started. I’m going to put an eye patch over your eye. We’ll get started with the right eye, so we’re going to put an eye patch over your left eye.

Good, all right. So we’re going to go ahead and place your chin right on the left side there. Hold on just a second, let me adjust it. All right, it looks like we’re looking good there. So what you’re going to do here is look at the little four dots at the bottom there. But first I’m going to give you this little button here that you’re going to be pressing, like I said. Look at the little four dots at the bottom there, and then in between those four dots are going to be some flashing lights. You’re just going to press the button every time you see one flash, okay?

All right very good. Now you’re going to look up at the top. There should be a little orange dot there. Just go ahead and keep looking at it. We’re going to take some pictures and then we’ll get started with the main part here.

All right, very good. We’ll go ahead and get started now. You’re just going to keep looking at that orange light and every time you see a little flash of light you’re going to press that button.

Okay, you’re all done with the right eye. We’re going to go ahead and just switch it on over to the left eye, so I’m going to take this patch off. I’ll put it on your right eye now so we can do the left eye. Okay. So I’ll go ahead and get back right in here, we’re going to be on the right chin rest now. Still got your button, very good. We’ll go ahead and start it now. Just press the button every time you see that little flashing in between those lights.

Okay, all done. All right, so I’ll take the button there and then we’re going to go ahead and go to another room here so we can do one more test. All right, let me take this off. All right, come follow me. Have a seat right here. This is our OCT test. What we do with this one is we take a scan of the back of your eye, all right, for glaucoma, we take a scan of your optic nerve back there okay? We just want to make sure everything’s all right, and make sure there’s no thinning of tissue. So for this one you’re going to go ahead and place your chin right on the left side first so we can do the right eye.

All right. Just going to adjust you here, make sure we get you aligned. Okay you’re all done. All right, so you’re all done with testing. So now what we’re going to do is we’re going to get you a follow-up appointment with Doctor Chinichian. At that time he’ll review these tests that you did today, and then he’ll also take a look inside of your eye and see what’s going on. All right? So let’s go.

We will get you a follow-up appointment here, and we’ll see you next time, okay? Have a good day.
